Thien Hanh Hospital doctors rescue worker after nail gun accident
Doctors at Thien Hanh General Hospital in Dak Lak, Vietnam, successfully performed emergency surgery on a 33-year-old male construction worker who was accidentally shot in the neck by a colleague with a nail gun.
Medical examinations and CT scans revealed that the sharp metal nail had penetrated the muscle layers of the neck, piercing the right internal jugular vein and resting dangerously close to the common carotid artery. Due to the proximity to vital structures including the trachea, esophagus, and major nerves, the injury was classified as life-threatening.
A specialized vascular and microsurgery team was deployed to remove the foreign object, control bleeding, and repair the damaged vein. Following the procedure, the patient remained stable, regained consciousness, and was able to eat normally. Doctors have issued warnings to construction workers regarding the strict use of nail guns and the necessity of following safety protocols to prevent similar workplace accidents.
