Zhejiang University appoints semiconductor expert Chen Ye

Zhejiang University has appointed semiconductor quality control expert Chen Ye as a Qiushi Distinguished Professor at its College of Integrated Circuits. Chen brings over 16 years of industry experience from the United States, where he worked for companies such as KLA and Anchor Semiconductor.

Specializing in defect detection and yield analysis for advanced chip manufacturing, Chen’s expertise is considered highly valuable amid global competition and export controls in the semiconductor sector. Zhejiang University stated that tools developed under Chen’s leadership have been utilized in mass production at major international foundries, including TSMC, Samsung, and Intel.

This appointment follows Zhejiang University’s recent achievement of overtaking Harvard University as the world’s top academic institution in the 2026 Nature Index. Chen, an alumnus of Zhejiang University, previously served as chief scientist at Semitronix Corporation in Hangzhou after returning to China from the U.S.
