Zhinan Temple's Lingxiao Treasure Hall destroyed by fire

A major fire destroyed the Lingxiao Treasure Hall at the Zhinan Temple in Taipei's Wenshan District on the night of August 24. The blaze, which burned for over three hours, affected approximately 1,500 square meters, severely damaging the first and second floors of the 60-year-old structure. No casualties or injuries were reported.

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an visited the site on August 25 to inspect the damage. He announced that the city government would establish a cross-departmental task force, supervised by Deputy Mayor Lin Yi-hua, to provide administrative assistance for the reconstruction process. The city plans to conduct structural safety assessments and work with the temple to preserve historical artifacts and cultural records.

Zhinan Temple management committee chairman Kao Chao-wen apologized for the incident and confirmed that the temple will not close entirely. While the damaged hall is under restricted access, other areas of the temple remain open to worshippers and tourists. The committee intends to establish a dedicated fund for the reconstruction efforts.
