Ziaire Williams focuses on defensive role with Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers forward Ziaire Williams has expressed that his primary role with the team will focus on defense. In recent discussions with head coach JJ Redick and president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, the emphasis has been on Williams serving as a “main defender” and a “point-of-attack defender.”

Williams, a former No. 10 overall pick who previously played for the Brooklyn Nets, signed a one-year veteran’s minimum deal with the Lakers. The 6-foot-9 player, who grew up in Lancaster, California, and attended Sierra Canyon High School, noted that playing near his home is a significant personal benefit.

In addition to defensive responsibilities, Williams reported that he has been working on his jump shot and finishing at the rim during the offseason. He also noted that he has increased his weight to approximately 215 pounds.
