IGN conducts new round of layoffs impacting prominent staff

IGN has undergone a new round of layoffs affecting multiple departments and several high-profile staff members. Notable departures include long-time video hosts Brian Altano, a veteran of the PlayStation podcast ‘Beyond’, and Seth Macy, a Senior Commerce Team Editor and frequent host of ‘Nintendo Voice Chat’.

Reports indicate that the cuts have impacted various departments, with some layoffs potentially influenced by employees' remote work status or their willingness to relocate. This development follows a broader trend of instability within the video game industry, which has seen successive waves of layoffs and studio closures affecting both developers and media outlets such as GameSpot, Giant Bomb, and Rock Paper Shotgun.

Industry experts note that these continuous cycles of downsizing have a significant impact on remaining staff, noting that rebuilding employee trust and morale after multiple rounds of redundancies is a complex, long-term challenge for companies.
