Ziguinchor livestock electrocution blamed on Senelec high‑voltage line

In Ziguinchor, southern Senegal, a goat and two cows were electrocuted after coming into contact with a defective high‑voltage line owned by the national electricity company Senelec. The incident, which occurred around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, caused estimated losses of 3‑4 million CFA for the herd owner.

The Coopérative des Éleveurs du Sud (CES) warned that a human tragedy was narrowly avoided, noting the heavy traffic of trucks and pedestrians near the site. CES demanded that Senelec improve surveillance and maintenance of its power infrastructure, especially during the rainy season, and called on the state to compensate the affected farmers and ensure a safer environment for livestock production.
