Zijin Mining invests $55M in Guyana solar plant; Metso expands Peru manufacturing
Zijin Mining is investing US$ 55 million to construct a solar power plant at its Aurora gold mine in Guyana. The project will feature a 45 MWp solar plant equipped with 100 MWh of energy storage.
This strategic move aims to reduce the operation's heavy reliance on diesel generators, which are subject to unpredictable costs due to fuel volatility and logistical challenges in a country lacking an integrated electrical grid. The solar infrastructure is intended to support continuous underground operations, including ventilation, pumping, and lighting.
In Peru, the Finnish technology provider Metso has expanded its local manufacturing capabilities. The company has begun producing customized screen meshes at its mill liner factory in Lima's Vulcano Industrial Zone. By incorporating new injection machinery, Metso can now produce over 28,000 panels annually to serve the maintenance and replacement needs of regional mining operations more efficiently.
