Zikoufang village care center supports elderly left by emigrants
In Zikoufang village, located in the Mingxi County of China's Fujian Province, a dedicated elderly care center provides essential services to residents left behind by mass emigration. Approximately 37% of the village's registered population, including over 800 individuals, lives abroad, primarily in Italy and Hungary.
Opened in October 2016 following a 6 million yuan investment, the facility includes a dining hall, clinic, and gym. It currently serves over 70 seniors aged 60 and older. The center is largely sustained by a solidarity fund fueled by continuous donations from emigrants living in Europe, ranging from small monetary gifts to food items.
To ensure affordability, residents pay only 210 yuan per month for three daily meals. The village manages the facility and organizes community activities, such as collective birthday celebrations, to support the social well-being of the elderly population.
