Zimbabwe announces plan to build 1,350 schools by 2029
The Zimbabwean government has announced an ambitious plan to construct at least 1,350 schools by 2029. Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerayi Moyo stated that the program, expected to cost over US$600 million, will prioritize rural and farming communities to address long-standing infrastructure shortages. Construction is scheduled to begin in November 2026, though the specific source of the funding has not been detailed.
In a separate localized issue, Bantwana Zimbabwe is seeking US$1,700 to rebuild a toilet block at Mayobodo Primary School in the Mangwe District. The facility was destroyed by heavy rains, leaving more than 800 learners without adequate sanitation. While the local community has mobilized resources by producing 10,500 bricks and pledging labor, additional funds are required to purchase essential materials such as cement.
