Zimbabwe faces legal delays in presidential term challenge and corruption allegations
Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Court has indefinitely postponed a legal challenge regarding Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3 (CAA3). The case, brought by the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), seeks to contest an amendment that extends President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term in office. The MDC argues the amendment was passed without sufficient public consultation and is unconstitutional. The party reported that no formal reason for the postponement has been provided and noted that its officials have faced alleged intimidation and harassment from authorities recently.
Separately, Zanu PF Member of Parliament Darlington Chiwa has been remanded to October 19, 2026, facing allegations of misusing Constituency Development Fund (CDF) money. Chiwa appeared before the Masvingo Magistrates Court, where the state opposed the release of his passport. The case is part of a broader scrutiny of how public development funds allocated for community projects are managed by legislators.
