Zimbabwe foreign currency inflows rise 33.7% to $15.9 billion

Zimbabwe's foreign currency inflows rose 33.7% year-on-year to $15.9 billion during the first nine months of 2026. This increase resulted in a cumulative surplus of $4.3 billion for the period.

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe reported that the growth was primarily driven by robust export performance, specifically shipments of tobacco and lithium sulphates, alongside favorable prices for gold and platinum group metals. Export receipts accounted for approximately 69% of total inflows, while diaspora remittances contributed 15%.

As a result of these inflows, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe increased its foreign exchange reserves to nearly $2 billion in September, up from $1.4 billion in June. The ZiG remained broadly stable against the U.S. dollar during the third quarter.
