Zimbabwe man charged with murder after illegal surgery

A 40-year-old man, Douglas Mutoredzanwa, has been charged with murder following the death of 51-year-old Margaret Gwamura during an alleged illegal medical procedure in Seke, Chitungwiza.

According to state reports, Mutoredzanwa allegedly posed as a medical doctor and invited Gwamura to a residence to remove a goitre. The procedure, which reportedly involved the use of a surgical razor blade and injections, caused heavy bleeding. Authorities state that Mutoredzanwa attempted to manage the bleeding with cotton wool and a bandage before leaving the property while the victim was still in critical condition.

Police recovered surgical instruments, used medication, and blood-stained bandages from the scene. Investigations revealed that Mutoredzanwa did not possess a valid medical practicing certificate at the time of his arrest. He appeared in court alongside an alleged accomplice, Perpetua Mataba, and both have been remanded in custody.
