Zimbabwe Parliament to debate Constitutional Amendment Bill 3

Zimbabwe's Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi announced that the ruling ZANU PF party expects all its MPs to support Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, which would allow President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in office until 2030. The bill is slated for its first reading in Parliament, after which MPs will vote publicly, with no secret ballot – “People in the gallery will watch as MPs vote,” Ziyambi said.

Opposition voices, including civil society activists, have urged lawmakers to reject the amendment, warning it threatens constitutionalism and the principle of regular free elections. The debate occurs amid growing factional struggles within ZANU PF over future leadership.
