Zimbabwe removed from World Bank fragile states list
The World Bank has removed Zimbabwe from its classifications of fragile and conflict-affected economies, effective July 1, 2026. Under the revised framework for the 2027 fiscal year, the country no longer appears on the Public Fragility, Conflict and Violence List or the Institutional Fragility List.
Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube stated that the reclassification reflects the country’s improving institutional resilience and economic transformation. Key economic indicators cited include a real GDP growth of 8.3% in 2025, driven by the agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and services sectors. Additionally, annual inflation reportedly declined to 2.9% in August 2026.
The government also highlighted improvements in fiscal discipline, monetary stability, and public financial management. Zimbabwe achieved a transparency score of 62 out of 100 in the 2025 Open Budget Survey, marking a significant increase in budget transparency since 2017.
