Zimbabwe seeks private investment and tourism focus to fund infrastructure
Zimbabwe is seeking to diversify its infrastructure and economic development funding through increased private sector involvement and targeted industry support. The Infrastructure and Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) has identified tourism as a priority sector for foreign-currency generating investment. CEO Willing Zvirevo stated that the bank intends to support the tourism industry throughout the entire investment cycle, including the construction and operation of hotels, restaurants, and conference facilities.
Simultaneously, the Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) has emphasized that the government cannot meet the nation's growing infrastructure and housing requirements through the national budget alone. ZBCA President Tinashe Manzungu advocated for a broader financing framework involving pension funds, insurance companies, banks, diaspora investors, and international partners. He suggested that public-private partnerships (PPPs) and municipal or housing bonds could serve as vital instruments to bridge the funding gap and support the country's goal of reaching an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
