Zimbabwe Speaker seeks Commonwealth reentry during UK visit

Zimbabwean National Assembly Speaker Jacob Mudenda has received support from UK House of Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle regarding Zimbabwe’s bid to rejoin the Commonwealth. During a working visit to London, Mudenda met with Hoyle to discuss parliamentary cooperation and the potential for Zimbabwe to be re-accepted into the international organization.

Mudenda stated that Hoyle committed to using his influence to advocate for Zimbabwe’s return, noting that the nation's association with the Commonwealth is rooted in history. The discussions also focused on exchanging parliamentary experiences and improving cooperation between the two nations, with Mudenda emphasizing that such relations must respect national sovereignty and equality.

Political observers have noted the meeting as a sign of shifting international engagement. While the reception of Mudenda in the UK does not constitute an endorsement of ZANU-PF policies, it highlights the ruling party's efforts to maintain diplomatic channels and cultivate international visibility despite historical tensions.
