Zimbabwe TNF Summit targets informal worker social security and economic reform

The Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF) Global Summit in Victoria Falls has focused on driving tangible economic reforms and expanding social protections in Zimbabwe. A key development is the National Social Security Authority’s (NSSA) plan to pilot a new social security scheme specifically designed for workers in the informal economy. Developed in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the scheme aims to address the limitations of traditional social security models that rely on formal employer-employee relationships.

In addition to social protection discussions, delegates at the summit called for a transition from dialogue to concrete action. The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) proposed a ‘Victoria Falls Dialogue-to-Delivery Compact.’ This initiative seeks to ensure that agreements between the government, business, and labor include identified owners, financing pathways, firm deadlines, and measurable outcomes to foster inclusive growth and investment.
