Zimbabwe to install five new transmitters to expand broadcasting reach

Zimbabwe plans to install five new transmitters by the end of the year to expand national broadcasting reach. Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Soda Zhemu announced that the initiative aims to increase national radio coverage to 85 percent and raise television coverage from 38 percent to 42 percent.

The project involves coordination between the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ), Transmedia Corporation, and the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC). Transmedia Corporation has already acquired the necessary equipment for the installation. Minister Zhemu noted that BAZ has also obtained modern monitoring devices to ensure signal strength and quality reach the intended audiences.

In addition to physical infrastructure, the government highlighted the recent launch of ZBC’s Over-the-Top (OTT) platform, Z+. This digital service allows users to stream radio stations, watch television channels, and access news and programs on demand via mobile devices.
