DR Congo defeats Zimbabwe in AFCON qualifier at Harare stadium
The Zimbabwe national football team, the Warriors, marked a historic return to home soil at the National Sports Stadium in Harare for an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifier against the Democratic Republic of Congo. This match ended a five-year period during which Zimbabwe was forced to host home games abroad due to stadium standards.
In a high-stakes Group E encounter, DR Congo secured a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe. Yoane Wissa opened the scoring for the Leopards in the 30th minute, followed by a goal from Samuel Moutoussamy just before halftime. Zimbabwe managed to reduce the deficit in stoppage time with a goal from Marshall Munetsi, but could not equalize.
With this win, DR Congo moves to the top of Group E with six points, while Zimbabwe remains in second place with three points. The result places the Leopards in a strong position for the qualification campaign.
