Zimbabwean footballers arrested in massive 750kg drug seizure

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested two professional footballers, Tumai Matsika (also known as Abas Amidu) and Reuben Kudzai Mhlanga, in connection with a major drug trafficking operation.

Officers intercepted a silver Honda Shuttle along the Kwekwe–Kadoma Highway, where they allegedly discovered 750 kilograms of dagga with an estimated street value of US$75,000. Police described the seizure as “one of the biggest drug seizures this year.”

In a separate but related operation, authorities arrested 48-year-old Prosper Mphofu after he allegedly received a parcel containing 60kg of dagga worth US$6,000. Law enforcement officials believe these incidents may be linked to a larger cross-border narcotics network operating between Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Mozambique.
