Zimbabwean leaders urge agricultural reform and economic capitalization

Zimbabwean Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has called for a shift toward productivity, value addition, and commercialization within the agricultural sector. Speaking at the 14th Annual National Agribusiness conference, Chiwenga emphasized that agriculture must drive economic growth and food security to help the nation reach upper-middle-income status by 2030. He advocated for a ‘Farm to Fork’ approach to better link production with processing and markets.

In Masvingo, Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ezra Chadzamira urged residents to capitalize on upcoming national events, such as the 2026 Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo and the 2027 National Independence celebrations, to generate income. While presented as economic opportunities, the directive has faced criticism from those concerned about rising living costs and the lack of concrete support for small businesses and informal traders to access these benefits.
