Zimbru Chișinău ordered to pay €1 million to Donny van Iperen

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ordered the Moldovan football club Zimbru Chișinău to pay more than one million euros to former Dutch central defender Donny van Iperen. The ruling follows a legal dispute regarding a severe injury the player sustained on August 6, 2022, during a match against Dinamo-Auto Tiraspol.

The compensation includes damages for lost income, loss of earning capacity, medical expenses, and moral damages. While the player originally sought 2.5 million euros, the CAS decision mandates a payment exceeding one million euros.

Zimbru Chișinău has announced its intention to appeal the decision. Club officials stated that the financial burden poses major risks to the club's continued operations, noting the specific economic constraints of the Moldovan football market. The injury occurred when van Iperen collided with an opposing goalkeeper, resulting in a loss of consciousness and subsequent intensive care treatment.
