Zinedine Zedog greyhound gains popularity in England
A three-year-old greyhound named Zinedine Zedog, a play on the name of legendary footballer Zinédine Zidane, has become a sensation in English racing. Owned by a group of university friends, the dog has achieved 16 victories in 54 races and recently placed second in a 400-meter race in Romford, east of London.
The owners have continued the football-themed naming trend with another dog named Demba Bark, a pun on striker Demba Ba. This follows other similar names in the British greyhound racing circuit, such as Pup Guardiola, referencing Pep Guardiola.
Despite the popularity of these themed names, greyhound racing remains a controversial subject in the United Kingdom. Animal rights advocates have successfully campaigned for bans on the practice in Scotland and Wales.
