Zion Suzuki joins Aston Villa from Parma in £30m deal

Aston Villa has completed the signing of 23-year-old Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Italian club Parma. The transfer is valued at approximately £30 million (€35 million / $40 million).

Suzuki, who previously played for Urawa Red Diamonds and Sint-Truiden, becomes the first Japanese goalkeeper to compete in the Premier League. His arrival comes amid uncertainty regarding the future of Villa’s current number one, Emiliano Martinez, who is widely expected to depart the club this summer.

Suzuki has earned 28 caps for the Japan national team and was a key figure in their 2026 World Cup campaign. The move marks a significant step for the goalkeeper, who has previously overcome professional challenges and online racial abuse during his career.
