Zionist Federation of Australia drops case against journalist Mary Kostakidis

The Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) has withdrawn its legal case of ‘racial hatred’ against journalist Mary Kostakidis. The case followed Kostakidis’ public criticism regarding Israel’s conduct in Gaza.

Kostakidis, a former SBS news anchor, described the withdrawal as a victory for press freedom and the democratic right to political expression. The legal battle had lasted two years.

Alon Cassuto, the chief executive of the ZFA, stated he withdrew the case to avoid providing Kostakidis with a Federal Court platform. He maintained that the initial action was satisfied by an apology Kostakidis issued two years prior, though the legal pursuit continued until now.
