Zipline launches drone delivery service in Round Rock, Texas

Zipline has launched its drone delivery service in the Austin, Texas area, beginning with an early-access program in Round Rock. The ‘First Flight’ program is currently available to the first 5,000 residents who sign up through the company’s app.

The initial delivery zone covers a three-mile radius around 3000 E. Palm Valley Blvd. Deliveries are conducted via autonomous drones that hover at an altitude of over 300 feet, lowering packages via a tether. The service has a maximum delivery weight limit of approximately 5 pounds.

This launch marks Zipline’s third expansion in Texas within 14 months, following previous entries into Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth. The company is also partnering with Round Rock ISD to support aviation education through classroom visits and career fairs. While operations have commenced, the Federal Aviation Administration’s draft environmental assessment regarding the Austin operations remains open for public comment until October 11.
