Ziya Gökalp’s intellectual legacy honored at National Library

To mark the 150th anniversary of his birth, a special exhibition and panel titled “National Library Treasures: Ziya Gökalp Exhibition and Panel” was held at the National Library in Ankara. The event, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, highlights the life, works, and ideas of the influential sociologist, writer, and thinker.

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy attended the program, emphasizing Gökalp’s pivotal role in shaping the intellectual foundations of the Republic of Turkey. Ersoy noted that Gökalp’s synthesis of national culture and contemporary civilization provided a significant contribution to the state philosophy and ideals of the newly established Republic.

The exhibition is divided into five main sections, covering Gökalp’s life, works, and thought. Additionally, his seminal work, “To Become Turkish, To Become Islamic, To Become Modern,” has been published in five different Turkic dialects—Uzbek, Kazakh, Azerbaijani, Kyrgyz, and Turkmen—to share his legacy across the Turkic world.
