Zlarin spearfishing incident involves Split City Councilor

A controversy has emerged on the island of Zlarin regarding an alleged incident of unsafe spearfishing near swimmers. A witness reported that a man was using an underwater spear gun to hunt fish in close proximity to beachgoers and children, claiming the individual ignored warnings and continued fishing near the shore.

The individual identified in the reports as Split City Councilor Aris Zlodre, a member of the DOMiNO party, has denied the allegations. While Zlodre confirmed his presence in the photographs, he dismissed the claims of hunting among swimmers as lies intended to harm him. He stated that he possesses the necessary fishing permits, follows legal protocols regarding the use of spear guns, and noted that the children pictured in the images are his own.

Under Croatian maritime fishing laws, spearfishing is strictly regulated. The use of underwater spear guns is prohibited at designated swimming areas, including within 100 meters of their boundaries, to prevent serious injury or death to others in the water.
