Zlatomir Šuvački, two-time Olympic kayaker, passes away

Zlatomir Šuvački, a prominent Olympic kayaker and member of the Kajak klub Begej, has passed away at the age of 80. He died on August 15, 2026.

Šuvački was a significant figure in Yugoslavian kayaking. His career highlights include winning a silver medal in the K-2 500m discipline at an international championship in Jajce in 1963. In 1966, he became the Yugoslav champion in the K-1 500m and earned a bronze medal in the 1000m event.

He represented Yugoslavia in two Olympic Games: Mexico City in 1968, competing in the K-2 1000m, and Munich in 1972, competing in the K-4 1000m. Following his competitive career, he dedicated himself to coaching in his hometown of Zrenjanin at the Kajak klub Begej. His funeral is scheduled for Monday, August 17, at the Temišvarsko cemetery in Zrenjanin.
