Zlín and Prague push ahead with major cultural venue renovation projects

In the Malenovice district of Zlín, the long‑delayed reconstruction of the former Květen cinema has entered the implementation stage. The roughly 100 million CZK project will turn the building into a multifunctional cultural centre for clubs, schools and community events while keeping essential public services such as a post‑office branch and a police outpost. Mayor Jiří Korec and city‑owned Nemovitosti města Zlína stressed the need for a modern, dignified space for local cultural life.

In Prague, the state‑run Environmental Fund will contribute 293.5 million CZK to the restoration of the Industrial Palace on the Výstaviště. The total cost of the work, which began in February 2022, is projected at 3.3 billion CZK. The upgrade includes rebuilding the left wing destroyed by a 2008 fire and installing energy‑saving measures. The palace is expected to be completed by June and open to the public in September, with Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda highlighting its heritage and sustainability value.
