Zmora crime thriller reaches number one on HBO Max in Poland

The Polish crime thriller “Zmora”, an adaptation of Robert Małecki’s bestseller, has become the number one most-watched series on HBO Max in Poland following its premiere. Starring Magdalena Cielecka and Piotr Żurawski, the production is set in Toruń.

The plot follows journalist Kama Kossowska, played by Cielecka, as she returns to her hometown. Her return prompts the reopening of a cold case involving the disappearance of her childhood friend, Piotrek, by Commissioner Tomasz Korcz. The narrative utilizes two timelines, jumping between the present day and retrospectives from the 1980s and 1990s.

While the series has reached the top of the platform's popularity charts in Poland, viewer reception has been mixed. On the Filmweb service, the production holds a rating of approximately 6.1 to 6.3 out of 10.
