ZOE and King's College London study reveals benefits of personalized nutrition
The PREDICT research program, led by the gut health company ZOE in collaboration with King's College London, has released findings suggesting that personalized nutrition may be more effective than traditional calorie counting.
Based on a study of 5,048 overweight or obese participants, researchers found that metabolic responses to food vary significantly between individuals due to genetics, lifestyle, and microbiota. The study reported that 83% of participants lost weight over 12 to 15 weeks, with an average loss of 3 kg per person. Notably, 34% of participants lost at least 5% of their initial body weight without following strict caloric restrictions. Instead, the program focused on the quality and combination of foods rather than total quantity.
Key scientists involved in the research include Sarah Berry, Chief Scientist at ZOE, and nutritionist Federica Amati. The results indicate that tailoring dietary advice to individual biological responses could shift standard nutritional recommendations.
