Baldovino Midali's woodpecker video reaches 20 million views

Naturalist photographer Baldovino Midali has seen a video of a great red woodpecker go viral, accumulating over 20 million views across Instagram and Facebook. The footage, captured in the Orobie Alps, shows the bird using a tree trunk as an anvil to open a hazelnut.

Midali expressed surprise at the global reach of the clip, noting that it has connected millions of people across different cultures and countries despite his relatively small Instagram following of approximately 22,000. He attributed the success to the authentic depiction of natural behavior rather than a staged or spectacular scene.
