Zografou arson: Mastermind arrested in mistaken target attack

Greek authorities have arrested a 34-year-old man suspected of being the mastermind behind an arson attack in Zografou that occurred on September 14, 2026. The arrest was carried out by the Hellenic Police's Sub-directorate for Combating Organized Sports Violence in the Athens area.

Investigations revealed that the attack, which targeted the vehicle of Deputy Mayor Kostas Pitsios, was a case of mistaken identity. The intended target was reportedly a high-ranking member of an organized fan group residing in a nearby house. The perpetrators, two men aged 33 and 35 who were previously arrested, allegedly misidentified the location.

Reports indicate the perpetrators were paid to carry out the act, with one receiving 350 euros and the other a quantity of cocaine valued at 350 euros. The fire caused significant damage to the vehicle, two motorcycles, and an apartment building, posing a serious risk to residents and passersby.
