Zohran Mamdani calls for end to US military aid to Israel

Zohran Mamdani has called for an end to United States military support for Israel on the third anniversary of the war in Gaza. In a statement, Mamdani criticized Washington for its “complicity” with every arms shipment sent to Tel Aviv and urged people to reject a world defined by occupation and apartheid.

Mamdani addressed the events of October 7, 2023, describing them as horrific war crimes while noting that the suffering has continued through what he termed a “genocide” in Gaza. He cited figures stating that over 74,000 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict, including more than 21,000 children.

The statement drew sharp criticism from various groups. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) described the remarks as a “disgraceful moral failure,” while the American Jewish Committee rejected the genocide allegations as “false.” Additionally, Israel’s UN Ambassador, Danny Danon, characterized the statement as an attempt to hijack the memory of October 7 for propaganda purposes.
