Zohran Mamdani celebrates Mexican Independence in New York

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani participated in the Mexican Independence Day parade in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, to celebrate the 216th anniversary of Mexico's independence. During the festivities, Mamdani honored the historical significance of the ‘Grito de Dolores’ and the legacy of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla.

Mamdani praised the Mexican community for its generational contributions to the city, specifically mentioning workers in Corona and musicians in Sunset Park. He used the phrase ‘Puebla York’ to acknowledge the strong cultural identity of the migrant community. The Mayor also reaffirmed the city's commitment to protecting the dignity and rights of Mexican New Yorkers, stating that city clinics, schools, and shelters will remain open to the community regardless of immigration status.
