Zohran Mamdani clashes with Benjamin Netanyahu over ICC arrest warrant
A sharp confrontation has erupted between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani following Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly.
During his speech, Netanyahu personally attacked Mamdani, accusing him of antisemitism and distorting the truth regarding the conflict in Gaza. Netanyahu claimed that Mamdani’s positions contribute to increased insecurity for the Jewish community in New York and accused him of reversing the roles of victim and aggressor.
Mamdani responded by stating that Netanyahu’s claims are baseless lies intended to whitewash the genocide of Palestinians. He emphasized that no amount of rhetoric changes the fact that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has an active arrest warrant against Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
The ICC issued warrants for both Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in November 2024. While Mamdani previously noted that New York City lacks the legal authority to execute the ICC warrant, he has called on federal authorities to enforce it.
