Zohran Mamdani faces scrutiny over synagogue attack response and federal probe into ally's fund
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing intense criticism following an antisemitic attack at the Central Park Synagogue during Shabbat services. While Mamdani expressed horror at the violence and pledged to ensure the safety of Jewish New Yorkers, advocates have accused him of fueling hostility through his history of inflammatory rhetoric regarding Israel.
Separately, the Department of Homeland Security is reportedly investigating a UK-based nonprofit known as PFF. Federal agents are scrutinizing whether the organization used opaque corporate entities to funnel approximately $100 million in donor funds to Al-Haq, a Palestinian group sanctioned by the United States in September.
Sources identify Bassema Yousef, a New York-born donor based in London and an ally of Mamdani’s political circle, as a central figure in the fundraising efforts. The investigation is examining whether these cross-border financial flows were used to obscure the movement of funds.
