Zoltán Martí withdraws candidacy for Independent Media Board

Zoltán Martí, a journalist and media professional nominated by the KDNP, has withdrawn his candidacy for a membership position on the Independent Media Board. Martí stated he no longer sees the point in continuing his application after the ruling party made it clear they would no longer support his nomination.

Martí expressed disappointment with the decision by the ruling party members of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture, noting that their sole objection was his previous employment within public media. He argued that this reasoning lacks professional merit and contradicts established practices, pointing out that such a restriction was not established when the board was created.

In a statement, Martí noted he does not wish to become the center of political controversy or a participant in predetermined committee meetings. The Hungarian Parliament recently elected the members and chair of the Independent Media Board, with Judit Bayer appointed as president. Other elected members include Viktor Bálint, Miklós Hargitai, György Szabó, Árpád Kollár, and Miklós Sükösd.
