Zomato bans analogue dairy dishes to ensure food safety
Zomato has implemented a zero-tolerance policy against the sale of dishes containing analogue dairy products, such as analogue cheese and paneer, on its platform. This policy, which took effect immediately, involves the delisting of dishes that restaurant partners have identified as containing these substitutes.
Under the new guidelines, restaurant partners are directed to transition to natural dairy products or remove affected items from their menus entirely. Zomato has also instructed restaurants to verify supplier labels and ingredient declarations to ensure menu accuracy. The company warned that non-compliant restaurants face potential removal from the platform.
This decision follows increased regulatory scrutiny in India. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) recently took action against food businesses for safety violations, and the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration banned the production and sale of artificial analogue paneer for one year. Zomato CEO Aditya Mangla stated the move aims to safeguard customer health and uphold clear food standards.
