Zondacrypto affair sparks debate over Polish parliamentary commission

A growing debate is unfolding in Poland regarding whether the Sejm should establish a parliamentary investigative commission to examine the Zondacrypto affair. A survey conducted by SW Research for Onet indicates that 50.6% of Poles support the creation of such a commission to investigate potential links between Zondacrypto and various politicians, parties, and organizations. Support is particularly high among citizens under 24, at 61.9%, while it is lower among those over 50, at 43%.

While some political groups, including Rozwoju Plus, Razem, and Konfederacja, have submitted resolutions to form the commission, others have expressed skepticism. Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek has criticized the move, describing a potential commission as a form of “theater” that might not add value to the ongoing criminal investigation. He argued that the prosecutor's office is already conducting a specialized investigation into allegations of large-scale fraud, money laundering, and paid protection, and suggested that political bodies should not interfere with active legal proceedings.
