Zong-Che Cheng reflects on MLB return after season of team changes
Professional baseball player Zong-Che Cheng reflected on a turbulent season marked by four Designated for Assignment (DFA) moves before successfully returning to Major League Baseball with the Boston Red Sox. After being released by the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team that developed him since high school, Cheng experienced significant emotional difficulty but ultimately focused on self-reliance and personal improvement.
Cheng achieved a milestone by recording his first MLB hit on June 27 and previously made history in Triple-A by nearly completing a cycle. He noted that his mindset has shifted from merely seeking hits to feeling a sense of belonging in the Major Leagues.
During a recent press conference in Taiwan, Cheng addressed public speculation regarding a potential return to Taiwanese baseball. He responded humorously to fans calling for his return, stating that he would only return if a team required his services. He emphasized that his recent struggles in the minor leagues allowed him to refine his swing and build the maturity necessary to compete at the highest level.
