Zonguldak mine collapse trial continues after two deaths

The trial regarding a mine collapse in the Gelik town of Kilimli district, Zonguldak, has continued. The incident, which occurred last February at a private mine, resulted in the deaths of workers Veysel Oruçoğlu (46) and Ziya Kiret (60).

Three defendants, Tevfik A., Halil D., and Ersin S., appeared before the Zonguldak 1st High Criminal Court facing charges of causing death and injury through negligence. During the hearing, defendant Halil D. claimed ownership of the workplace, contradicting previous statements, and cited psychological distress following his lawyer's departure from a prior session.

The proceedings were marked by tension between the families' lawyer, Meral Çolak, and the defense lawyer, Osman Özdoğan. After a dispute regarding the nature of their arguments, Özdoğan left the courtroom, claiming his right to defense was being obstructed. Another defendant, Ersin S., requested a new expert report regarding the incident.
