Zonguldak Provincial General Assembly members clash over public works
Tensions rose during the third meeting of the Zonguldak Provincial General Assembly in September following a dispute between AK Party Ereğli Provincial Council Member Hüseyin Engin and New Party Ereğli Provincial Council Member Hayrettin Gezer. The disagreement centered on infrastructure works conducted in Çevik Village and the alleged misuse of Special Administration resources.
Engin defended the legality of the operations, stating that the works were carried out by a private company rather than using state machinery for private benefit. He provided specific figures, noting that 319,000 TL was paid for stone wall construction and 170,000 TL for excavation, asserting that all invoices are available.
Regarding the placement of materials, Engin clarified that mountain materials were deposited on a 5-meter-wide cadastral road rather than private property. He also addressed the use of corrugated pipes, explaining they were procured at the village headman's request for channel widening projects and were not used on private land. Gezer responded by stating he was not making formal accusations but was seeking clarification on the matters raised.
