Istanbul butcher murdered over business ties to ex-wife

A 63-year-old butcher, Fikret Korkmaz, was fatally stabbed in the Bayrampaşa district of Istanbul following a dispute over business transactions. The suspect, 66-year-old Reşat P., allegedly targeted Korkmaz because the butcher continued to supply wholesale poultry and meat to a restaurant operated by the suspect's estranged wife, Gülnur P.

According to reports, Reşat P. had previously threatened Korkmaz, demanding that he stop selling products to his wife. On the day of the incident, the suspect followed Korkmaz and intercepted him on Turna Street. A verbal altercation escalated into a physical confrontation during which the suspect stabbed Korkmaz multiple times in the leg, groin, back, and abdomen.

Korkmaz was transported to Gaziosmanpaşa Training and Research Hospital but succumbed to excessive blood loss in the ambulance. The suspect, who was also injured during the struggle, fled the scene but was later apprehended by police at Sultangazi Haseki Training and Research Hospital while seeking medical treatment. Reşat P. has since confessed to the crime and been referred to the courthouse.
