Zonguldak to host 24th International Coal Congress

The 24th International Coal Congress and Exhibition is scheduled to take place in Zonguldak, Turkey, on September 23-25. Organized by the TMMOB Chamber of Mining Engineers Zonguldak Branch, the event has been held biennially since 1978.

Representatives of the congress executive committee, including Chairman Nevzat Ünlü, recently met with Hakan Yeşil, President of the General Mine Workers' Union (GMİS), to extend an official invitation. The congress has evolved from a national gathering into an international platform, featuring 868 domestic and 103 foreign papers presented over its history.

The upcoming event will focus on scientific discussions regarding the entire coal lifecycle, from exploration to consumption, addressing current developments and challenges within the mining sector. Hakan Yeşil expressed continued support for the congress, emphasizing the importance of discussing coal as a significant energy source on international platforms and addressing worker issues and employment within the industry.
