Zonnebeke and Oosterzele host community sustainability and wellness initiatives

Local municipalities in Belgium are hosting community-focused events centered on nature and sustainability.

In Zonnebeke, designated as the Walking Municipality of the Year 2026, the ‘Wandelchallenge 2026’ is being held from October 4 to 11 to coincide with the Week of the Forest. Participants are encouraged to walk as many kilometers as possible to promote mental and physical well-being. Participants can earn bronze, silver, or gold status based on their distance, with prizes available for those who complete the challenge.

In Oosterzele, the local government hosted a sustainable breakfast to honor local sustainability leaders. The event recognized the Oxfam Wereldwinkel Oosterzele and the Broederlijk Delen Oosterzele working group. These organizations focus on fair trade and supporting solidarity projects in Africa and Latin America. The breakfast featured locally produced, fair-trade, and organic products to reflect the values of the nominees.
