Zoo animals see significant developments in US and Czech Republic

At the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado, two orphaned grizzly bear cubs have successfully doubled their weight from 14 to 32 kilograms following two months of intensive care. The siblings were brought to the zoo from Montana in June 2026 after their mother was euthanized due to repeated human-wildlife conflicts. Because orphaned grizzly cubs lose their natural fear of humans, they are typically placed in permanent zoo care rather than being released into the wild.

In the Czech Republic, the Jihlava Zoo has welcomed three new meerkat triplets born on July 28. The young animals are currently exploring their enclosure under the supervision of keepers, who allow the social group to manage the offspring naturally. The zoo utilizes a communal care system where dominant females breed and other group members act as helpers or wet nurses to assist in raising the young.
