Zoo Brno releases common voles as South Moravian region funds wildlife rescue stations

Zoo Brno released about twenty common voles (Microtus arvalis) near Ivančice, continuing a breeding and re‑introduction programme that began in 2015. The curators aimed for a balanced sex ratio and used specially prepared release pits to give the animals a chance of survival in the steppe habitat.

The South Moravian Region allocated more than CZK 1 million to three regional wildlife‑rescue stations – in Buchlovice, Haná and Rajhrad – to support the care and rehabilitation of injured animals such as hedgehogs, birds of prey and swans. An additional CZK 150 000 was granted to the environmental NGO Hnutí Brontosaurus to fund youth ecological projects and public‑education activities.
