Zoo des Trois Vallées in Tarn remains inhabited by 150 animals after closure

The Zoo des Trois Vallées in Montredon-Labessonié, Tarn, remains inhabited by approximately 150 animals despite being closed to the public since 2021 following a prefectural order. The site, which includes lions, tigers, camels, emus, and zebras, has become a source of significant concern for local residents due to deteriorating conditions and security failures.

Reports indicate that the animals lack daily veterinary supervision, with only a small number of employees arriving to feed them. The facility's infrastructure is reportedly in disrepair, with damaged external fences and enclosures. Security breaches have been documented, including instances where cage bars were allegedly cut with tools.

Animal escapes have caused alarm in the nearby village. In January 2026, a capuchin monkey escaped and was seen in the village center. Previous incidents include the escape of nine wolves in 2021 and a historical incident where a four-year-old girl was bitten by a feline. While the administrative closure intended for the animals to be transferred to other French establishments, many remain at the site.
